World Cup: New Zealand's loss, Pakistan's hopes of reaching the semi-finals remain intact
After the defeat of New
Zealand against Australia in the International Cricket Council (ICC) ODI World
Cup, Pakistan's hopes of reaching the semi-finals started to brighten again.
The group stage of the 13th edition of the ongoing ODI World Cup
in India has entered its final stage. Almost all the teams in the mega
event have played more than half the matches.
Talking about the points table of the ICC World Cup, India and
South Africa can easily reach the semi-finals as they are the top 2 teams at
the moment. New Zealand and Australia will still have to battle it out in
the remaining matches to qualify for the next stage.
On the other hand, Sri
Lanka and Pakistan are also in the fifth and sixth position on the points table
and are a threat to other teams. Both Sri Lanka and Pakistan are looking
for an upset on the table with 4 points.
If we talk about the possible situation of the national team
reaching the semi-finals, first of all, Pakistan will have to win their
remaining three matches. These three matches are to be played against
Bangladesh, New Zealand and England.
With winning all three matches, Pakistan will also need the help
of New Zealand. If New Zealand wins even one of their remaining 3 matches,
then New Zealand will qualify for the next stage on the basis of run rate.
New Zealand's next three matches are against South Africa,
Pakistan and Sri Lanka. If New Zealand loses these matches, Pakistan can
easily qualify for the semi-finals.
